Join us at Keilor Cemetery, one of GMCT's most historic sites, and learn about future memorial options for Melbourne's west.

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) cares for and manages 20 memorial parks and cemeteries across Melbourne. As some of our older cemeteries change over time, how do we continue to meet the needs of local communities while preserving their history and heritage?

GMCT maintains our network of cemeteries and memorial parks in perpetuity, meaning forever, including long after burials have ceased. 

Keilor Cemetery is one of our oldest and most historic sites. Like many long-established cemeteries in metropolitan areas, it has limited space remaining for future interments. 

Looking ahead, we need to continue providing memorial and burial options for growing communities in Melbourne’s west while respecting the history and heritage of our established cemeteries. Harkness Memorial Park, opening in 2027 in the City of Melton, will offer new final resting places close to where these communities call home.  

We’re encouraging conversation to raise awareness of developments such as Harkness Memorial Park and support a smooth transition for communities and families with longstanding ties to Keilor Cemetery.  

It starts with meeting our neighbours.  

We're inviting local residents to learn more about Harkness Memorial Park, ask questions and discuss how this new memorial park will help meet the future needs of western Melbourne communities.
